A Hugely Successful Art Gallery Afloat. Ebb and Flow by Ed Gray

Last weekend the P.S. Dixie Queen was transformed into a gallery space to exhibit work by contemporary London artist Ed Gray. Ebb and Flow was the largest ever show of Gray’s work to date and featured both paintings, prints and a recent 2 metre panorama of London.

The response from the public was incredible.  Over the course of the weekend the show welcomed over 600 visitors on board and was publicised on the BBC, the Londonist, Southwark News and All in London.

On Friday the 9th of November a busy and successful private view of the exhibition was held for over 250 friends, colleagues and followers of Gray and his work. Canapés were provided by each of the D&D restaurants lining the river at Butler’s Wharf and live music by Ingrid Kristina Duo and Burton Bradstock played. BBC’s Robert Elms took to the stage to say a few kind words and unveil a new, never before seen piece, The Threadneedleman.

Over the duration of the weekend visitors came to see the free exhibition and meet the artist for a daily talk and tour. Thank you to all who supported and attended the event and contributed in making it the success that it was.

The response of the public to the work was incredible and overwhelming. I believe we had over 600 visitors to the show in all over the three days. There was a genuine buzz created by the works themselves but magnified by the ambience of the boat and the continuity between the subject matter and the location. On a personal level this is a true measure of the success of the show. It's made me appreciate more than ever the importance of the work in the lives of the people that respond to it.... All the best, and thank you for your vision and for your belief in my work.""

""A year or so ago, the artist Ed Gray unveiled a painting of a busy day in Bar Itlaia within the Bar itself, an evening that was attended by Rupert Everett and many of our regulars. Time shift forward to last weekend and that painting called 'Golden Day' was central to a new show by Ed which took place on the Dixie Queen boat which is moored down by Butler's Wharf near Tower Bridge.

We went along on the Sunday and found a packed crowd being shown round the twenty odd paintings all featuring London scenes.

Congratulations to Ed for once again producing such fantastic work in conjunction with the GX Gallery.""
