The Boat Race sailed to success once again with TLC!
2016’s Easter weekend has come and gone – and this year it had a lot more in store than just chocolate egg gorging and lazy lie-ins, as it was Boat Race weekend!
The 162nd rowing contest between Oxford and Cambridge took place on Sunday 27 March in dramatic conditions – and yet again showcased the importance and popularity of the River Thames both to London and the world.
An estimated 250,000 people lined the banks of our famous river despite the showers to catch a glimpse of the famous dueling teams as they fought the blood, sweat and finishing line tears through the 4.2mile course from Putney to Mortlake.
A massive 15 million more people tuned in to watch on TV, but some lucky spectators got to see the action at the starting line up close and personal thanks to Thames Luxury Charters.
As has become tradition, both universities hired their own TLC vessel, moored at Putney Pier, to cheer on their team. Oxford supporters filled up the Erasmus, while Cambridge’s took to the water on the Elizabethan.
Both sets of spectators enjoyed top class food and drink on board as they were treated to spectacular views of the start, before watching the rest of the race on big screens.
Each vessel got to see a victory – with Oxford Women and Cambridge Men both winning – and we’re certain everyone had a superb day overall, taking in the action on the Thames itself. We’re already counting down the days to next year, and we’re sure they are as well.
But you don’t have to wait until next year’s event to discover it’s Wonderful On Water.
